How Will You Drive the Ring?

Touristenfahrten vs. Track Days

Driving the Nordschleife is unlike any normal racetrack. Compare public tourist drives and dedicated track days to choose your style.

Touristenfahrten (Public Driving)

Public Tourist Drives

Practically any road-legal vehicle can drive on the Nordschleife during public sessions. It is legally classified as a one-way public toll road, meaning standard German road laws (StVO) apply.

  • Toll Road Law: Standard StVO rules apply. You must drive on the right and overtake on the left only. Speed limits exist in some sections.
  • Low Barrier to Entry: Pay per lap (approx. €30-35) or buy a seasonal card. Road-legal cars & bikes allowed.
  • Mixed Traffic: You will share the track with tour buses, motorhomes, motorbikes, rental cars, and supercars.

Private Track Days

Exclusive Track Days

Closed private events organized by clubs or companies (e.g. RSR, Destination Nürburgring). Ideal for drivers seeking a pure racing experience without tourist traffic.

  • Overtaking Rules: StVO does not apply. Overtaking is permitted on either side (usually by mutual consent or side indicators).
  • No Speed Limits: The track is fully closed, allowing you to drive flat-out on sections that usually have tourist drive speed limits.
  • High Track Time: Limited number of cars on track. Fewer closures, meaning clean, open laps and consistent driving practice.
